"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

Author:Kristen Update:May 20,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the "C" button, aligning with earlier rumors. This confirmation was subtly revealed through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, which features an image on its App Store and Google Play listings that clearly displays the "C" on the button.

The "C" button was initially showcased with the Switch 2 earlier this year, though the first images of the new Joy-Con did not label the button. Subsequent reports hinted at it being the "C" button, and this has now been verified.

Some believe it might facilitate wireless casting of the Switch 2 to a TV or enable screen sharing. Others speculate it could switch the Joy-Con's functionality, perhaps into a mouse mode. There's also talk of it potentially enhancing group or voice chat features.

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which should shed more light on this and other features. Until then, here's what we know:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release in 2025, likely not before June based on hands-on event schedules.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, featuring bigger Joy-Con that may double as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as new Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2.
