Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its range of accessories. While the price for the console itself remains unchanged, there have been notable increases in the cost of accessories, which are influencing the early adopter community's pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 base model continues to be priced at $449.99, with the bundle including Mario Kart World available for $499.99. Mario Kart World, a beloved kart racing game, is priced at $79.99 when purchased separately, while Donkey Kong Bananza comes in at $69.99.
However, it's the accessory prices that have caught the attention of fans and potential buyers. Here's a detailed breakdown of the new prices:
In their announcement on the official site, Nintendo explained that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories were due to "changes in market conditions." Many of the higher-priced items, such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, the Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera, have seen a uniform $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set, on the other hand, has gone up by $10, now priced at $119.99 from the previous $109.99.
The community has been vocal about their concerns over the increased costs, especially for additional Joy-Con pairs, which now come close to a triple-digit price. Many are expressing surprise and hesitation at these price points.
Amidst the pricing concerns, there's a silver lining for those who already own Switch 1 accessories. Nintendo's support site confirms that several accessories from the original Switch, including the Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller, will remain compatible with the Switch 2. While the original Joy-Cons cannot be directly attached, they can be wirelessly paired, and the same goes for the Pro controller. Other nostalgic favorites like the Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will also work with compatible games on the new console.

Social media is abuzz with discussions about the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories, with users also exploring third-party controller options. While these alternatives may not offer all the features of the Switch 2 controllers, such as the C-button or wake-up functionality, they present a cost-effective solution for many.
Nintendo has indicated that future price adjustments could be made depending on market conditions. This uncertainty adds another layer of consideration for potential buyers. However, the ability to use existing Pro controllers provides some reassurance to those who already own them.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are set to begin on April 24, 2025. As the launch date approaches, it will be interesting to see how these pricing strategies affect consumer behavior and the overall reception of the new console.
