Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games: Kirby and Super Mario Party

Author:Kristen Update:May 29,2025

Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading select Switch titles from their original editions to the enhanced Switch 2 versions, and it’s clear these upgrades come at a premium. Titles such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree will each require an upgrade fee significantly higher than previous offerings.

For context, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom costs $9.99. However, the upgrade fees for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount, priced at £16.99 / €19.99 in the UK and EU. Based on these figures, it's expected that the U.S. price will hover around $19.99 per game.

These upgrades bring substantial improvements to the gameplay experience. For instance, the Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes additional story content in the form of the Star-Crossed World, while Super Mario Party Jamboree introduces Jamboree TV, which leverages new features like Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphones, and an optional USB-C camera. Additionally, these titles boast enhanced visuals, improved frame rates, and new multiplayer options.

In terms of pricing, the base versions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree remain unchanged at $59.99. However, the Switch 2 Editions, including all enhancements, are priced at $79.99 each. Players who already own the original versions will need to pay the upgrade fee to access the new features.

Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers enjoy a perk: they can access the enhanced editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no extra cost. Unfortunately, this benefit does not extend to Kirby and the Forgotten Land or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 launched today, priced at $449.99, and quickly gained traction amid strong demand. However, customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store were advised that delivery dates are not guaranteed due to overwhelming interest.
