Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following the appearance of a purported Nintendo Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 by accessory maker Genki, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials. This is because Nintendo is not participating in CES 2025.

The statement, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply declared the images "not official," marking an unusual instance of Nintendo directly addressing product leaks. Numerous Switch 2 leaks have surfaced since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Genki's display of the replica immediately sparked widespread online discussion.

Despite the official denial, Genki's replica aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most noticeable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also suggested that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachment and function as mouse controllers, claims consistent with other reports.

While Nintendo hasn't commented on the accuracy of the replica, the company previously stated it would reveal the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, speculation continues. A retail launch is not anticipated before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
