Mastering the Music Box in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Location, Usage, and Hunt Triggers

Phasmophobia challenges players to identify ghost types and escape with their lives. The game's updates continually introduce new elements, including the intriguing Music Box. This guide details how to acquire and utilize this valuable tool.

Acquiring the Music Box

The Music Box, like other cursed objects in Phasmophobia, has a random spawn rate of approximately 1 in 7. Its appearance is entirely chance-based; there's no guaranteed method to ensure its presence. Only one Music Box can spawn per game. Once located, interact with it to pick it up and activate it with another interaction.

Utilizing the Music Box

Several strategies leverage the Music Box's capabilities. Upon activation, it plays a tune. A ghost within a 20-meter radius will react vocally, revealing its position. Proximity matters; within five meters, the ghost will move towards the Music Box, providing an effective lure. The Music Box automatically stops playing after the song concludes. Note that holding the activated Music Box depletes your sanity.

Triggering Hunts with the Music Box

The Music Box can initiate either a standard or cursed hunt, depending on specific circumstances:

  • Throwing the active Music Box (not placing it down).
  • Reaching 0% sanity while holding the playing Music Box.
  • The ghost approaching the Music Box for over five seconds.
  • The ghost's proximity to the player holding the active Music Box.

Strategic Considerations

For optimal effectiveness, consider using the Music Box in conjunction with other tools. Smudge Sticks, for example, offer a crucial survival advantage should a hunt commence, allowing for ghost identification or objective completion.
