MultiVersus to Shut Down After Season 5

Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter. The game's fifth and final season will mark the end of its online service.

MultiVersus Season 5: The Final Season

On January 31st, 2025, the official MultiVersus Twitter (now X) account revealed the game's impending shutdown on May 30th, 2025. A blog post on the official website confirmed that Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the last. This season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes), both earnable through gameplay. After Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

While online services end, MultiVersus will retain an offline mode. Players can download the final version of the game between February 4th (9 AM PST) and May 30th (9 AM PDT) to preserve their progress. This allows local gameplay, solo against AI or with up to three friends. The game will automatically create a local save file linked to the player's account, preserving all earned and purchased content. Real money transactions ceased on January 31st, 2025, but any remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5's end.

A Look Back at MultiVersus

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (new characters, rollback netcode, PvE mode, etc.), the game still faced challenges, including technical issues and reported player count decreases.

By the time of its shutdown on May 30th at 9 AM PDT, MultiVersus will boast 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30th, 2025.
