Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Shutdown Announced by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the shutdown remain unannounced, though the recent closure of NetherRealm's mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.

The fate of in-game purchases is currently unclear. While NetherRealm and Warner Bros. haven't commented on refunds for purchased currency or items, they've promised further updates. Players are advised to follow the official X (formerly Twitter) account for news regarding refunds.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the franchise. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, this action-adventure RPG blended combat with a cinematic narrative, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The storyline centered around Raiden and the player's team thwarting Shinnok's attempt to regain his power.
