The player count for Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) has seen a significant decline, bringing it closer to the numbers of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World (MH World). Delve deeper to understand MH Wilds' decreasing player engagement and discover details about its first major collaboration.
Launched to widespread acclaim, Monster Hunter Wilds quickly became Capcom's fastest-selling game of the year. However, three months post-launch, the game's concurrent player numbers have significantly dropped.
Noted by the popular Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' player base has halved since May, with the game now approaching the player counts of the older MH World. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds boasts a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, while MH World sits at 26,479 as of the latest figures.
In contrast, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam, far outpacing MH Wilds' current 40,000. Many attribute this decline to a perceived lack of endgame content in MH Wilds, despite the release of Title Update 1. With the promising arrival of the second Title Update this summer, there's hope that new monsters, events, and features will help revitalize the player base.
In an exciting development, Capcom hinted at a collaboration between MH Wilds and another of its beloved franchises, Street Fighter. On May 19, Monster Hunter's official Twitter (X) account posted an image featuring a paw mark styled in the urban aesthetic of Street Fighter 6.
While details remain under wraps, the potential for this crossover isn't far-fetched, given the successful past collaborations between Monster Hunter and Street Fighter in MH World. This previous event introduced Ryu and Sakura armor sets, along with paid DLC such as Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures and a Chun-Li costume for the Handler.
This upcoming collaboration would mark MH Wilds' first major crossover event, sparking excitement among fans eager to see how Capcom will blend these iconic worlds. Monster Hunter has a rich history of collaborations, including partnerships with Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Megaman for MH World, among others.
With a lineup of exciting updates and this anticipated collaboration on the horizon, there's optimism that MH Wilds will see a resurgence in its player base. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, be sure to check out our detailed article below!
