A Look Back at Metroid Prime 4's Development

Initially announced at E3 2017 without Retro Studios at the helm, development was later restarted under Retro Studios in 2019. Nintendo cited the initial progress as not meeting their standards for a Metroid Prime sequel.

A full gameplay trailer, showcased in June 2024 during a Nintendo Direct, revealed the game's title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, its antagonist Sylux, and a 2025 release window. Nintendo reaffirmed this release date on January 3, 2025.
