Mass Effect 5: Maintaining the Franchise's Identity

A Photorealistic and Mature Sci-Fi RPG

Michael Gamble confirmed that Mass Effect 5 will retain the mature tone and photorealistic visuals established in the original trilogy. He emphasized the distinct nature of Mass Effect, differentiating it from other BioWare titles like Dragon Age: Veilguard. Gamble explicitly stated that Veilguard's stylistic choices will not influence Mass Effect 5, highlighting the unique approach required for a sci-fi RPG. He further clarified that Mass Effect will maintain its mature thematic elements.

Fan concerns stemmed from the perceived stylistic shift in Dragon Age: Veilguard, described by some as having a Disney or Pixar-like aesthetic. Gamble himself expressed some reservations about this characterization of Veilguard. He assured fans that Mass Effect 5's photorealism is a priority, stating it will remain so "as long as I'm running it."
