Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era

Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

The story unfolds approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the pivotal Battle of Jakku. The New Republic aims to solidify its rule, but faces new threats from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other adversaries exploiting the power vacuum.

“Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel the narrative into a fresh, uncharted era, introducing new galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “These stories will be action-packed, featuring the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, with fresh twists on familiar settings. We've designed the series for easy entry, making each issue accessible to new readers. We're incredibly excited.”

Noto added, “Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to the page! It's been exhilarating to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, free from existing film or TV interpretations. I get to create fresh looks while using the actors from the 80s as a guide for this timeline.”

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.

This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
