Marvel Rivals follows the footsteps of Overwatch with its Spring Festival event

Marvel Rivals is gearing up for an exciting Spring Festival event, set to kick off this Thursday. This celebration promises to bring a host of new features, including a free Star-Lord costume and a unique game mode called Clash of Dancing Lions. In this mode, teams of three players will compete to score a ball into the opponent's goal, drawing inevitable comparisons to popular titles like Rocket League and Lucioball from Overwatch.

While many might quickly draw parallels to Rocket League due to the similar ball-scoring mechanics, the mode more closely resembles Lucioball, the inaugural special game mode in Overwatch, which itself was inspired by Rocket League. This comparison is particularly noteworthy as Marvel Rivals seeks to carve out its own identity and distance itself from Overwatch, a game it has seemingly surpassed in recent times.

Interestingly, despite the push to establish a unique identity, Marvel Rivals' first major event features a game mode strikingly similar to Overwatch's first event. The key difference lies in the thematic setting: while Overwatch's event was themed around the Olympic Games, Marvel Rivals introduces a strong Chinese cultural influence with the Spring Festival theme.

The good news for fans is that they won't have to wait long to experience this new event, as the Spring Festival is just around the corner, starting this Thursday.
