The Thing's Marvel Rivals Debut

The first half of Marvel Rivals' Season 1 concludes, making way for the second half launching February 21st. This update includes rank adjustments and, most importantly, the remaining members of Marvel's First Family. The Thing, alongside the Human Torch, will officially join the Marvel Rivals roster on February 21st. With the Vanguard roster currently limited, The Thing's arrival is highly anticipated.

The Thing's Abilities: A Tank's Arsenal

The Thing is designed as a Vanguard—a tank—in Marvel Rivals, specializing in close-quarters melee combat. Think of him as a powerful brawler, similar in style to the Hulk. While precise details await his official release, leaked information reveals some of his abilities:

  • Furious Charge: A dashing attack that throws enemies airborne, leaving a stunning seismic zone in its wake.
  • Battlefield Support: A quick jump to assist a teammate, providing damage reduction for both.
  • Slam Moment (Ultimate): A powerful ultimate ability that launches enemies into the air, creating kill opportunities for The Thing and his allies.
  • Solid as a Rock (Passive): Immunity to knockback and crowd control (CC) effects.
  • Team-Up Ability: Similar to the Hulk, The Thing can launch Wolverine as a projectile across the battlefield. His primary attack consists of rapid, low-damage punches, while a secondary charged punch delivers higher damage.

The Thing appears to be a frontline tank, absorbing damage for his team. While sharing similarities with the Hulk and even Venom, he's not a dive tank. He might serve as a strong alternative to existing tanks like Doctor Strange or Magneto, but his exact role will be clearer once he's in-game.

Optimal Team Compositions for The Thing

Based on his abilities, The Thing synergizes well with tanks like Thor, Hulk, and Peni Parker. Wolverine is a good DPS choice, as are ranged DPS characters like Hawkeye or Namor. Healers such as Mantis and Luna Snow are also good pairings, compensating for The Thing's limited mobility.

The Thing's release date and abilities are exciting additions to Marvel Rivals. Prepare for battle!

Marvel Rivals is currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
