Author:Kristen Update:May 23,2025

Kieran Culkin, renowned for his role as Roman Roy in the hit series Succession, has been cast as the young Caesar Flickerman in Lionsgate's upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The announcement, which put an end to months of speculation, was officially confirmed by Lionsgate on X/Twitter. Fans and readers alike had been eagerly awaiting news on who would portray the iconic and flamboyant TV host in this much-anticipated prequel.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to delve into the world of Panem following the events of 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and significantly before the original Hunger Games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence. Stanley Tucci's portrayal of Caesar Flickerman in the earlier films left a lasting impression, setting a high bar for Culkin as he steps into the role of a younger version of the character.

Erin Westerman, Co-President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, praised Culkin’s casting, stating, “Kieran’s scene-stealing presence and undeniable charm are perfect for Caesar Flickerman, the sickeningly watchable host of Panem’s darkest spectacle. Stanley Tucci made Caesar unforgettable—and now Kieran will make the role entirely his own.”

Culkin's recent successes, including his role in A Real Pain, which earned him a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award, have solidified his status as a versatile and compelling actor. His earlier roles in films such as Father of the Bride and Home Alone, where he starred alongside his brother Macaulay Culkin, have also contributed to his storied career. His sharp wit and charisma make him an ideal choice for the dystopian TV host in Sunrise on the Reaping.

Set for release on November 20, 2026, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will bring Suzanne Collins’ novel to life on the big screen. Culkin will be joined by a stellar cast including Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, among others.
