Jon Hamm Eyes Marvel Cinematic Universe Debut

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 22,2025

Renowned actor Jon Hamm is closer than ever to making his MCU debut. Hamm, best known for his role in Mad Men, is reportedly in talks with Marvel to adapt a comic book storyline he's passionate about. He's even proactively pitched himself for multiple MCU roles.

Hamm's history with Marvel adaptations is well-documented, though bittersweet. He was originally cast as Mister Sinister in Fox's X-Men franchise, specifically for The New Mutants. However, due to the film's troubled production, his scenes were ultimately cut.

A recent Hollywood Reporter profile reveals Hamm's renewed interest in the MCU. He confirmed pitching himself for roles based on a favorite comic book, and when Marvel expressed similar interest in adapting the same storyline, Hamm declared his candidacy.

While the specific comic book remains undisclosed, fan speculation runs rampant, with Doctor Doom being a popular choice. Hamm himself previously expressed interest in the role, further fueling fan excitement. He’s previously cited the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom as particularly compelling characters.

Hamm’s career is marked by a deliberate avoidance of typecasting. He consistently chooses roles that pique his interest, as evidenced by his recent work in Fargo and The Morning Show. This selective approach makes a villainous role, such as Doctor Doom, even more plausible, although Doom's inclusion in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot isn't confirmed, with Galactus currently rumored as the antagonist. A reimagining of his Mister Sinister role under Disney's direction also remains a possibility.

Despite previously declining the role of Green Lantern, Hamm remains enthusiastic about portraying a comic book character. This aligns with his preference for non-leading roles, strengthening the likelihood of a villainous part. Ultimately, whether this collaboration between Hamm and Marvel comes to fruition remains to be seen.
