iPhone 16e: Everything You Need to Know to Preorder Apple’s Newest ‘Budget’ Phone

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 31,2025

It's official: the iPhone 16e is now available for preorder. Apple's latest addition to its smartphone lineup, the iPhone 16e, is set to hit the market on February 28. But you don't have to wait until then to secure one; preorders are open right now. This innovative device, which combines the functionality of a mobile phone, iPod, and internet communication tool, comes in black or white and starts at an attractive price of $599, making it the most affordable option in the iPhone 16 series. Here’s everything you need to know to get your hands on an iPhone 16e.

Where to Buy the iPhone 16e

The iPhone 16e is Apple's newest entry-level smartphone, effectively taking over from the iPhone SE, which saw its last update in 2022. Unlike its predecessor, the 16e shares more similarities with the standard iPhone 16 in terms of size and specifications. Priced at a starting point of $599, it's more expensive than the iPhone SE ($429) but significantly cheaper than the standard iPhone 16 ($799) and even the iPhone 15, which remains on sale at $699.

Available for preorder starting February 21, you can secure your iPhone 16e at various retailers:

  • $599.00 at Verizon
  • Get it at Apple
  • Get it at Best Buy
  • Get it at Verizon
  • Get it at AT&T
  • Get it at T-Mobile

iPhone 16e Specs

When you purchase the iPhone 16e, you're getting a device equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display. However, it features a notch at the top of the screen instead of the "dynamic island" found on the standard iPhone 16.

Under the hood, the iPhone 16e boasts the same A18 chip as the standard model but comes with a 4-core GPU, one less than the iPhone 16. While this might affect performance slightly, it still supports Apple Intelligence, ensuring you have access to all the AI features introduced in iOS 18. It also includes Apple's new C1 cellular modem, which should enhance power efficiency and boost battery life. Apple claims the iPhone 16e offers up to 26 hours of video playback, surpassing the 22 hours provided by the standard iPhone 16.

On the downside, the iPhone 16e lacks MagSafe integration, meaning you won't be able to use MagSafe chargers. It does, however, support Qi wireless charging, allowing you to charge it on compatible wireless chargers. The phone is available only in black or white, lacking the vibrant color options of the iPhone 16.

Despite these minor drawbacks, the iPhone 16e stands as a compelling, budget-friendly option within the iPhone lineup.
