Capcom Producer Hints at Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Character Returns in Future Fighting Games

Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto has ignited excitement among fans by suggesting a possible return of the beloved original characters from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in future Capcom fighting games. Speaking at EVO 2024, Matsumoto stated that the return of Amingo, Ruby Heart, and SonSon is "always a possibility."

This renewed hope stems from the upcoming release of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a remastered collection of classic titles including Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Matsumoto believes this release will introduce a wider audience to these unique characters, potentially sparking the demand necessary for their return.

"This is actually a great opportunity for us," Matsumoto explained, "because...a lot more people will be able to familiarize themselves with the characters." He further hinted at the possibility of these characters appearing outside the Versus series, perhaps even in Street Fighter 6, if fan interest is substantial. This, he added, would provide a "bigger pool of content" for the Capcom development team.

The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection itself has been a long-time goal for Matsumoto and his team, involving extensive collaboration with Marvel and overcoming scheduling challenges. The producer also expressed Capcom's desire to release more legacy fighting games on modern platforms, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in driving these decisions.

While a new Versus title is on Capcom's radar, Matsumoto stressed that the company is proceeding step-by-step, carefully considering timing and collaborations. The re-release of classic titles, he concluded, serves as a crucial step in revitalizing the community and gauging interest for future projects.
