Yesterday, IGN announced that the much-anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for play at an Australian museum starting in September 2025. Along with this news, they shared a sprite sheet from the game, sparking a frenzy of reactions across the internet.
A Reddit thread quickly emerged to dissect the exclusive sheet, with one commenter questioning, "In what situation [is] making a sprite of naked Hornet necessary?" The sprite sheet features numerous images of Silksong's protagonist, Hornet, in various battle-ready and relaxed poses. However, one particular image caught the community's attention: Hornet casually holding her cloak under one arm, as seen in the close-up below and on the original sheet on the right-hand side, just under the topmost ring:
This image led to a flurry of comments. One redditor remarked, "What kind of situation in-game calls for her to remove her cloak and hold it like she's an exhausted dad returning from work? This is cursed." Another expressed disbelief, "Is this real???? There’s no way this is a sprite that is going to be in Silksong. Is that just what she looks like????" The discussion escalated with another user shouting, "IN WHAT KIND OF SITUATION WOULD THEY EVEN NEED THIS SPRITE?"
The conversation took a more humorous turn as some users got a bit carried away. One respondent confidently stated, "So, we don't have to bother making a mod," while another playfully suggested, "We're going straight to ESRB 18+ for this one." A thread OP exclaimed, "HORNET PUT YOUR CLOAK BACK ON THAT'S SO INDECENT WHAT THE HELL," prompting a reply, "This looks so wrong," and another comment, "this is completely unnecessary." Someone else simply announced, "I do not like this."
While the exact purpose of the sprite remains a mystery, one plausible theory suggests that players might be able to upgrade or change Hornet's cloak. Until then, fans are left to let their imaginations run wild.

Team Cherry's sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, is one of the most eagerly awaited games globally, consistently topping Steam's wishlist charts. The game recently made a brief appearance at Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct, and shortly after, Team Cherry confirmed a 2025 release window, much to the delight of its patient fanbase. With the game set to be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, speculation is rife about a potential August launch, though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Silksong will be part of ACMI's Game Worlds exhibition in Melbourne, which will also feature displays exploring the game's design and artistic direction.
