Excitement is building among fans as recent developments hint at an imminent re-reveal and potential release of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Microsoft's subtle reference to the game in an Xbox post, coupled with significant backend changes to its Steam listing on March 24, has sparked widespread speculation across social media, Reddit, Discord, and other online communities. According to SteamDB, these updates include an opt-in feature for GeForce Now, Nvidia's video game streaming service, along with modifications to assets and a critical update to the Steam store page's legal lines, now listing the copyright as Team Cherry 2025 instead of 2019. These changes suggest that Hollow Knight: Silksong might see a release in 2025, with the anticipation further fueled by the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and during this time, fans have experienced a mix of new updates and long periods of silence from Team Cherry. January saw heightened activity among fans, triggered by cryptic posts on X/Twitter from a developer, leading to rampant speculation about a potential re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct and the possibility of a timed launch exclusive on Nintendo's next-generation console. When Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. It's also highly anticipated on Game Pass, following Microsoft's deal to bring Silksong to the service on day one.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all featured games would be playable within the next 12 months. This led Xbox to seemingly confirm the long-awaited sequel's release within that timeframe. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, stating that the game had grown significantly and they needed more time to ensure its quality. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, commented, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted titles on Steam. In IGN's review of Hollow Knight, we praised its rich world of Hallownest, full of stories to discover and branching paths that offer extensive choice in exploration. With a high density of secrets and challenging enemies, Hollow Knight was deemed worthy of every moment spent in its world, setting a high bar for Silksong.
