IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The highly anticipated game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This opportunity comes as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also feature displays that explore the game's design and artistic direction.

Team Cherry, the Adelaide-based studio behind Silksong, has been tight-lipped about the game's release date, offering only a vague 2025 window. However, the museum's announcement provides a concrete date for when fans can experience the game, at least in a public setting.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement about showcasing Silksong. "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September," they stated. They emphasized the depth of the game's artistic direction, from the detailed sprite animations of Hornet’s movements and attacks to the intricate logic behind its challenging boss fights.

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements that will be on display. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

The news has sparked speculation among Hollow Knight fans about the game's release date. Given that it will be playable at the museum from September 18, it's likely that Silksong will be released before that date, possibly in August.

Recent developments have heightened anticipation for Silksong. The game made a brief appearance at Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct last month, confirming the 2025 release window and showcasing a few seconds of new gameplay. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Silksong was initially confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 announced later. The game has been at the center of various intriguing teases over the years, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe shared by Team Cherry at the start of 2025, which led fans to hope for a re-reveal in April.
