Harry Potter: Magic Ends as EOS Unveiled

NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game remains available in Asia and select MENA regions, this regional end-of-service (EOS) announcement marks the game's closure for a significant portion of its player base.

Initially released in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game enjoyed a strong initial launch in its home market, but global pre-registrations, beginning in February 2022, failed to translate into sustained long-term success.

The game's decline is attributed by players to several factors. While its Clash Royale-inspired gameplay and wizarding duel mechanics initially resonated, a shift in the reward system is widely cited as a key contributor to its downfall. Reddit discussions highlight complaints about the game increasingly favoring paying players over skilled, free-to-play users. Nerfs and slower progression for non-spending players further alienated a large segment of the community.

The game has already been removed from app stores in the affected regions. For players in regions where the game remains active, the experience includes dorm life, classes, secret discoveries, and wizarding duels.
