Harrison Ford: 'Indiana Jones Proves AI Isn't Needed to Capture My Soul'

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of the beloved character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent." He praised Baker, known for his role in "The Last of Us," for his brilliant performance, emphasizing that it was achieved without the use of AI.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, is described as an "authentic" yet non-canonical addition to the Indiana Jones series. This release coincided with the 2023 film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which did not fare well with audiences. In contrast, the game received positive feedback, prompting the franchise's creatives to consider exploring this new direction rather than bringing Ford back to reprise his role.

Ford, who has also starred in Star Wars and will soon appear in Marvel projects, joins a growing list of artists criticizing the use of AI in media. Directors like Tim Burton have labeled AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has called it a "dead end." Similarly, voice actors such as Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" and Doug Cockle from "The Witcher" have voiced their concerns. Luke criticized a chatbot that mimicked his voice, and Cockle told IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous," as it can rob voice actors of their income.
