Harrison Ford Doesn't Care That Indiana Jones 5 Flopped, and Joined Marvel For a 'Good Time'

Harrison Ford isn't fazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, simply stating, "s**t happens." He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe because it seemed like a "good time."

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the legendary actor, known for his roles in Star Wars, explained that despite feeling there was "another story to tell" in the Indiana Jones saga, he's unbothered by the film's negative reception and estimated $100 million loss. He elaborated, "When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie."

This hasn't deterred him from joining another iconic franchise. Ford has joined the MCU in Captain America: Brave New World, stepping into the role of Thaddeus Ross, previously played by the late William Hurt, and taking on a more significant role as the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his decision to join the MCU predated knowledge of this transformation. He hadn't even seen a script for Brave New World when he signed on, drawn in by the prospect of fun. He stated, "Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time. I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."

Brave New World, arriving February 14th, is one of the shortest MCU films to date. It stars Anthony Mackie as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans, and introduces deep-cut characters from Marvel lore, including a payoff to a tease from The Incredible Hulk with the introduction of The Leader.
