Guillermo del Toro's passion for Frankenstein might rival that of Dr. Frankenstein himself. At the Next on Netflix preview event, the acclaimed writer-director unveiled a tantalizing glimpse into his long-awaited adaptation of the classic tale. While del Toro confirmed that fans won't see a trailer until this summer, Netflix treated audiences to a first-look image of Oscar Isaac embodying the iconic mad scientist.

In a video message, del Toro shared his deep connection with the project, stating, "This film has been on my mind since I was a child — for 50 years. I’ve been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein." As he spoke, he gestured towards the array of Frankenstein figures and collectibles adorning his renowned Bleak House's Frankenstein room.

Del Toro also teased some exclusive footage, showcasing Oscar Isaac's Victor Frankenstein in a confrontation with Mia Goth, who plays a seemingly affluent aristocrat. Additionally, the footage introduced Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s monster, characterized by long black hair, stitched-up gray skin, and a striking red glint in his eyes. This footage, however, is not available online yet.

Reflecting on the project's personal significance, del Toro remarked, "You see, over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. It doesn’t get more personal than this." His dedication to bringing Frankenstein to life is evident, marking a journey that spans decades and reflects his deep, personal connection to the story.

Known for masterpieces like Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy, del Toro's commitment to this project underscores his long-standing effort to adapt Frankenstein. As we eagerly await further developments, it's clear that this film is not just another project but a labor of love and a significant chapter in del Toro's illustrious career.
