Netflix Games is losing two classic Grand Theft Auto titles next month. Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be removed from the Netflix Games catalog on December 13th.

Why are these games leaving?

The licensing agreement between Netflix and Rockstar Games for these two titles is expiring. This is standard practice for Netflix, which licenses games similarly to how it licenses movies and TV shows. A "Leaving Soon" label will appear on the games before their removal. The initial agreement was for a 12-month period, and the games launched exactly one year ago.

What happens after December 13th?

After the removal date, Netflix subscribers will no longer have access to GTA III and Vice City through the Netflix Games platform. However, players can still purchase the games individually or as part of a trilogy bundle on the Google Play Store. Each game costs $4.99, or $11.99 for the complete trilogy (The Definitive Editions).

Future possibilities?

Unlike some previous game removals from Netflix Games, this time subscribers are receiving advance notice. Interestingly, this occurs despite the GTA trilogy contributing significantly to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023. While Rockstar Games isn't renewing the current licenses, rumors suggest future collaborations might bring remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars to Netflix Games.
