God of War TV Series: A Creative Reset

The Show is Not Cancelled

God of War TV Series RebootRecent reports confirm that the God of War series adaptation is restarting from scratch. Showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have all left the project, despite reportedly completing multiple scripts. Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

However, some key figures remain: Santa Monica Studio's Cory Barlog (Creative Director) continues as an executive producer, alongside PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee, and Santa Monica Studio's Yumi Yang. Amazon and Sony are actively seeking a new showrunner, producers, and writers to redefine the series' direction. Crucially, the project remains uncancelled.

The Road Ahead: Delays, But Continued Development

God of War TV Series FutureInitially announced on a PlayStation podcast in 2022, following the success of the 2018 God of War reboot, the Amazon and Sony collaboration reflects Sony's broader strategy of adapting its popular video game franchises for film and television. This initiative, launched with the creation of PlayStation Productions in 2019, has already yielded several projects.

These include the 2022 Uncharted film, the highly successful The Last of Us series (with a second season slated for 2025), the 2023 Gran Turismo film, and this year's Twisted Metal series. Further adaptations in development include Horizon Zero Dawn (Netflix), Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the Until Dawn film (set for release on April 25, 2025).
