George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has declared his enthusiasm for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, calling it "as faithful an adaptation as one could reasonably expect."

In a recent blog post, Martin revealed that HBO has completed filming the six-episode series and remains on schedule for a release later this year, possibly in the fall. Unlike the previous spin-off, House of the Dragon, Martin expressed strong approval.

"Having viewed all six episodes (the final two in rough cuts), I was thoroughly captivated," Martin wrote. "Dunk and Egg have always held a special place in my heart, and the actors portraying them are simply phenomenal. The entire cast delivers outstanding performances. You'll be particularly impressed by the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall."

He described the series as a close adaptation of The Hedge Knight, the first novella in the Dunk and Egg series. "It's as faithful an adaptation as one could reasonably hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject)," he quipped.

However, Martin cautioned viewers expecting non-stop action. "While there's a spectacular fight scene, there are no dragons, large-scale battles, or White Walkers," he explained. "It's a character-driven story, emphasizing duty, honor, and the essence of chivalry."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg). HBO has already unveiled several images and a short teaser trailer, despite the show's release still being months away.

Martin concluded his post with a playful reminder about his ongoing work on The Winds of Winter, hinting at future Dunk and Egg adaptations: "Next up is 'The Sworn Sword,' the second Dunk & Egg tale. And after The Winds of Winter, I'll need to tackle 'The Village Hero' and the other stories waiting in the wings. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll all keep me on my toes!"
