Author:Kristen Update:Apr 14,2025

Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer is back in action, just over six months after GameStop pulled the plug in August 2024. The entire team is set to return, ready to dive back into the world of gaming journalism with renewed vigor.

In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer's Editor-In-Chief, Matt Miller, shared the thrilling news that Gunzilla Games has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. Not only are they bringing back the editorial team, but they're also expanding into production and beyond. Gunzilla Games, known for their free-to-play extraction battle royale game, Off the Grid, currently in Early Access, and their innovative "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem" called GunZ, are spearheading this revival. Adding star power to the mix, Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed director of District 9 and Chappie, serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder.

Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that Gunzilla Games is committed to preserving Game Informer's independence. The new owners are adamant about the outlet remaining a free-thinking editorial space, with the team maintaining full control over content decisions. Under the new entity, Game Informer Inc., the site is reviving its over 30-year legacy that was abruptly paused last year. The team has been hard at work, preparing "dozens" of new game reviews from the period of their hiatus, alongside their Best of 2024 awards.

Fans of the print magazine will be pleased to know it's making a comeback, albeit at a later date. The team is aiming to make it "bigger and better than it was before." In the near future, Game Informer plans to roll out membership and subscription benefits, enhance their video, streaming, and feature content, and expand their network of experts and partnerships to bring diverse perspectives to their audience.
