Forza Horizon 4 Farewell: December 15th Marks End of an Era

Forza Horizon 4: Digital Sale Ends December 15, 2024

The popular open-world racing game, Forza Horizon 4, will be removed from major digital stores on December 15, 2024. This means no new purchases of the game or its additional content will be possible after this date. Launched in 2018, Forza Horizon 4, set in a fictionalized UK, boasts over 24 million players (as of November 2020) and was a critical and commercial success for Xbox.

While previously stating no plans to delist, developer Playground Games confirms the removal due to expiring licenses. The game will be unavailable on Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. All DLC will be removed from purchase on June 25, 2024, leaving only the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions available until the December delisting.

Forza Horizon 4's Final Series and Post-Delisting Access

The final in-game series, Series 77, runs from July 25 to August 22. Afterward, the playlist screen will be unavailable, but the Forza Events screen will remain, offering daily and weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events. Existing players can continue playing regardless of the delisting. Game Pass subscribers with active, paid subscriptions who own DLC will receive a game token to maintain access.

License Expiry and Sales

The delisting is attributed to expiring licenses for in-game cars and music, a common occurrence in racing games. This mirrors the fate of previous Forza Horizon titles. To capitalize on this news, Steam offers an 80% discount, and an Xbox Store sale is planned for August 14.
