At Droid Gamers, we receive a diverse array of gadgets, but a projector is a novel addition. The Formovie Episode One, with its promise of streaming mobile games onto a larger screen, piqued our interest as a compelling piece of technology to explore.
Designed to be budget-friendly—an important feature given the typically high cost of projectors—the Episode One delivers on its promise, despite some minor drawbacks. Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may lack the robust feel of higher-end models, its lighter weight of three pounds enhances its portability, making it easy to take on the go.
Some users might find the connectivity options limited, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, these are reasonable trade-offs for the price, and they should suffice for most users' needs.
In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own within its price range. With 150 ISO lumens, it isn't the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector available. Our tests showed it struggled under direct sunlight but performed admirably in darker environments, as expected. It displayed movies and TV shows with clarity, and streaming games were handled competently.
For optimal image quality, we found it necessary to position the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output, while acceptable, was somewhat tinny due to the built-in speaker. For a better audio experience, we recommend connecting an external speaker to the Episode One.
The user interface is one of the projector's strengths, offering a straightforward setup and operation that outshines many more expensive competitors. Its budget-friendly approach simplifies use, making it more user-friendly than some pricier options.
Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. While it may not excel in any single aspect, it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users.
