Earlier this year, the launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website ignited remake rumors. The buzz grew when Square Enix shared a quote from the iconic black mage Vivi on Twitter a few weeks later.

The latest update showcases small icons of four of the eight main characters on the website. Clicking these reveals brief descriptions accompanied by fresh artwork from FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his work on Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo spinoffs. These summaries highlight each character’s role and aspirations in the story.

While no official confirmation has emerged, the detailed effort behind this anniversary celebration has fans expecting a major announcement soon. For now, FF9 enthusiasts await further news on a possible remake.

New Anniversary Merchandise

Square Enix has also expanded the 25th anniversary merchandise lineup for FF9. New items include Garnet’s necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, acrylic standees, and more.

Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now available for pre-order, with a release planned for November 15. Priced at approximately 38,500 yen ($260), it’s a premium collectible. A wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, set for release on September 6, is also open for pre-order at around 17,600 yen ($120).

The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection features eight unique designs sold as blind boxes, keeping the design a surprise until opened.
