Several Fallout developers, including New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, have expressed enthusiasm for contributing to a new Fallout game. However, a key condition for their participation is the opportunity for creative innovation.

Creative Freedom: The Decisive Factor

In a YouTube Q&A, Sawyer emphasized the importance of creative freedom, stating that the appeal of any project hinges on the scope of creative latitude allowed. He clarified that restrictive constraints would render the project unappealing, as the core motivation stems from exploring uncharted creative territories.

This sentiment is echoed by Fallout co-creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, who expressed interest in a Fallout: New Vegas remaster. In an interview with The Gamer, Cain highlighted the necessity of novelty: each RPG he's worked on offered unique creative challenges, and a new Fallout game would need to offer similar fresh perspectives to pique his interest. He explicitly stated that the defining question would be "What's new?"

Obsidian's Perspective

Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart also voiced his desire to work on another Fallout title, should the opportunity arise. However, as of January 2023, he confirmed that no such project was underway, citing Obsidian's busy schedule with Avowed, Grounded, and Outer Worlds 2. While he expressed a personal hope to develop another Fallout game before retirement, the timing remains uncertain.

In essence, while the talent and desire exist within the Fallout development community, the creation of a new entry hinges on the promise of innovative gameplay and design.
