Elder Scrolls IV Remake Rumored Again, Evidence Surfaces

Rumored Oblivion Remake Fuels Fan Excitement for 2025

A LinkedIn profile belonging to a developer strongly suggests an Oblivion remake, built using Unreal Engine 5, is currently under development. This adds weight to persistent rumors and leaks hinting at the project's existence. Many fans are speculating about a potential reveal during a rumored Xbox Developer Direct in 2025, although the event itself remains unconfirmed. The anticipation is further fueled by widespread hope for a new Elder Scrolls VI trailer before the year's end.

The possibility of an Oblivion remake has circulated for years, with a 2023 rumor suggesting a 2024 or 2025 release. Xbox insider Jez Corden added fuel to the fire in late December 2024, predicting a January 2025 unveiling at an Xbox Developer Direct. Given Microsoft's past Developer Directs in January 2023 and 2024, this remains a plausible scenario. Recent developments significantly bolster the credibility of these ongoing rumors.

A Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a studio reportedly involved in the project, boasts on their LinkedIn profile about working on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, the context and engine specification strongly suggest it's the highly anticipated Oblivion remake, rather than a simple remaster. This contrasts with earlier reports suggesting a Fallout 3 remaster, the status of which remains unclear.

LinkedIn Profile Strengthens Oblivion Remake Speculation

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, garnered critical acclaim for its immersive open world, visuals, and soundtrack. Since 2012, a dedicated community has been working on Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. A recent update from the Skyblivion team suggests a 2025 release for their ambitious project.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains shrouded in mystery. The sole trailer for Elder Scrolls VI debuted in 2018, with Bethesda Game Studios confirming it as their next major undertaking after Starfield. Director Todd Howard's prediction of a release 15-17 years after Skyrim leaves a considerable timeframe for speculation, but fans remain hopeful for a new trailer before the close of 2025.
