Elden Ring is set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement made during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct. While it remains to be seen how this version will compare to those on other platforms, the spotlight on Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition at the presentation has sparked excitement among Nintendo fans eager to experience the game this year.

Since its launch in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies in its first month and nearly 29 million to date. The game has seen players tackle its challenging bosses using unconventional methods like the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller and has inspired ambitious speedrunning challenges. The success continued with the release of the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, followed by the promising cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, which has shown great potential in early public network test sessions.

IGN's review awarded Elden Ring a perfect 10/10, praising it as "a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." Similarly, Shadow of the Erdtree earned a 10/10, with IGN noting, "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."

While FromSoftware has not yet disclosed the release date or detailed the specifics of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, anticipation is high. For more information on everything revealed at today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, you can find comprehensive coverage here.
