Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: Cute and Exclusive

Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

FromSoftware has recently provided further details on their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to an interesting transformation in the design of the hub area's keeper, introducing a character that embodies a distinctly cute aesthetic.

During the Switch 2 Direct, fans were introduced to a unique character—a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs—which serves as the hub companion in The Duskbloods. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki elaborated on this character's role, stating, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He added, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

Miyazaki further explained the design choice, noting, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)." This marks a playful departure from the typically somber and enigmatic shrine keepers seen in previous FromSoftware titles, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll.

Given that The Duskbloods is a PvPvE game, the nature of the guidance provided by the winged rat remains a point of intrigue. Miyazaki hinted at the introduction of "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should prepare for unexpected elements when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
