Dune: Awakening Sets Global Launch and Early Access

Funcom has officially confirmed the worldwide release schedule for Dune: Awakening.

Drawing inspiration from Denis Villeneuve's hit films and Legendary Entertainment, Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO that drops players onto the most treacherous planet in the universe, offering an unprecedented open-world exploration of Arrakis.

You’ll need to master Fremen techniques to endure, while expanding your abilities through combat, harvesting spice, constructing bases, and trading. The game is now slated for a June 10, 2025 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, following a three-week delay to address issues discovered during beta testing. Players with a head start, however, can jump in five days early beginning June 5.

IGN enjoyed its time with the game, noting in our Dune: Awakening beta preview: "As a longtime fan of Dune, it’s a thrill to explore and uncover more about this beloved universe. Funcom has clearly poured extensive effort into worldbuilding and lore, even while taking creative liberties by positioning Awakening within a parallel reality separate from the books and films."

Last week Funcom hosted a livestream showcasing Dune: Awakening’s mid-to-endgame content and a guided tour of the vast Hagga Basin. The presentation highlighted the sheer scale and diversity players can look forward to, including "the lush O’odham region, the imposing Hagga Rift, and the towering spires and rock formations of Jabal Eifrit, to name just a few." Prior to this, beta players had only experienced about 25% of Hagga Basin—the stream put these massive, varied landscapes on full display.

"Even before venturing across the endless dunes and perils of the Deep Desert, players will dive into a fully-realized survival experience," Funcom revealed.

"They can rise through the ranks of House Atreides or Harkonnen; build formidable strongholds; brave Imperial Testing Stations; unlock advanced schematics for crafting; explore and gather resources using a range of vehicles; and much more." Additionally, the Landsraad system "lets every player—whether they prefer PvE or PvP—contribute to their faction’s collective progress."
