Dragon Quest 12 Information to Be Revealed 'Little by Little,' Series Creator Yuji Horii Says

Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be revealed gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix development team is diligently working on the project.

This is the first substantial update since May 2024, following the announcements of the passing of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, key figures in the Dragon Quest franchise. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile gaming division had also preceded this news.

Recent company restructuring and the absence of updates had sparked fan concerns about the game's potential cancellation. However, Horii's statement allays these fears, assuring fans that Dragon Quest XII is actively in production.

Dragon Quest XII was unveiled during the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebrations and will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million units sold.
