Disney Lorcana enthusiasts have been treated to a treasure trove of exciting updates about the future of the trading card game. The much-anticipated ninth set, Fabled, is set to launch on September 5, 2025, introducing the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards and featuring beloved characters from A Goofy Movie. Alongside this, details on the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, were shared ahead of its debut on June 6, 2025, along with a new Collection Starter Set and insights into the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Fans also got a sneak peek at Darkwing Duck's arrival in the game. Let's dive into the details to ensure you're fully in the loop.

Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play

The excitement surrounding Fabled is palpable, with the Disney Lorcana team teasing fans ahead of the pre-release on August 29 and the wide release on September 5, 2025. A Goofy Movie will make a significant impact with new cards, though specific details remain under wraps. The spotlight is on the introduction of Iconic Cards, with Mickey and Minnie on a carousel being the inaugural duo. These Iconic Cards are the rarest in Lorcana, with only two featured per set.

Joining the Iconic Cards are the new Epic Cards, which are rarer than Legendary but easier to obtain than Enchanted and Iconic. These cards will boast unique artwork and foil treatments, adding to the allure of cards like the new Elsa (Snow Queen). Fabled will also mark the first rotation of cards, making certain cards from the first four sets ineligible for Core Constructed competitive play. However, fans can still enjoy their older cards in the newly introduced Infinity Constructed format.

To cater to both new and seasoned players, Fabled will include reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will be fully usable in competitive play. "To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter," said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. "But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!"

For newcomers eager to dive into Lorcana, the team has announced the Collection Starter Set. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.

Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure

Reign of Jafar, the eighth set in the Lorcana series, is slated for pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6, 2025. This set continues the ongoing narrative centered around the Disney villain Jafar, who now wields the Hexwell Crown and has corrupted Archazia’s Island. The set promises traps and illusions, with characters like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber teaming up to thwart Jafar's schemes.

In addition to the set, fans can look forward to Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a cooperative experience that allows four players to challenge Jafar and his minions. The set will feature cards like Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard).

Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck

Looking ahead, Disney teased the set following Fabled, titled Whispers in the Well, slated for release in Q4 2025. Key art showcased Mickey, Ariel, and hinted at the inclusion of Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer. Furthermore, fans' long-standing requests for Darkwing Duck have been answered, with his introduction to Lorcana confirmed for 2026.

The competitive scene is set to sizzle with the Disney Lorcana World Championship taking place on June 28 and 29, 2025, at Walt Disney World.
