Digimon Con Reveals New Project: Digital TCG Launch?

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 26,2025

For fans of the long-running franchise Digimon, the upcoming Digimon Con 2025 is set to be a highlight event. Attendees can anticipate a slew of new announcements and updates about upcoming projects within the franchise. One teaser that has particularly caught our attention features a confused Renamon alongside a mobile phone, sparking speculation about what might be unveiled.

The obvious speculation is that this could be hinting at a digital version of the Digimon Trading Card Game (TCG). Bandai Namco already offers a tutorial app for iOS and Android, which is common for many of their physical trading card games. However, following the release of Pokémon TCG Pocket, it's plausible that Digimon might be planning something similar.

While excitement is building, it's important to temper our expectations slightly. The teaser doesn't explicitly confirm that the new project will be mobile-based; it could simply be suggesting that fans use their mobile devices to watch the upcoming livestream later this week.

Going Digital

It's no secret that while Digimon enjoys a dedicated fanbase, it often lives in the shadow of the Pokémon franchise. In the late '90s and 2000s, there was a notable rivalry between the two, but Pokémon has since claimed the global pop culture crown. For Digimon, launching a digital TCG wouldn't guarantee immediate success as it might for Pokémon. Yet, it wouldn't be a significant risk either, given the existing popularity of the Digimon TCG. Expanding its accessibility could be a game-changer. We'll have to wait and see what's revealed during the upcoming Digimon Con livestream later this month.
