Delisted FPS Games Might be Returning with PS5 and Xbox Series Ports

Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation featuring four iconic Doom games, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The collection, which was delisted in 2024, has recently received ESRB ratings for these platforms, hinting at a potential re-release. The ESRB ratings notably exclude the Nintendo Switch and last-generation consoles.

The collection's significance stems from its inclusion of remastered versions of the original Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the 2016 reboot. The original Doom, released in 1993, revolutionized the first-person shooter genre with its groundbreaking 3D graphics, multiplayer capabilities, and mod support. Its enduring legacy extends beyond gaming, encompassing films and even a near-miss crossover appearance in Secret Level.

The ESRB "M" rating for the collection on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, along with a similar rating for Doom 64 (included in the physical edition of the collection), strongly suggests a digital re-launch. This aligns with Bethesda's past practice of re-releasing titles, as seen with the combined Doom + Doom II package for current-gen consoles. Furthermore, id Software's history of porting its games to newer platforms, exemplified by the Quake II port, further supports this speculation.

Games Included in Doom Slayers Collection:

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom III
  • Doom (2016)

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel set in a medieval setting, is slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, promising a unique twist on the established sci-fi franchise.
