How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans, is a significant early hurdle in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. This guide breaks down how to defeat him in his two phases.

How to Defeat Zhang Jiao: Phase 1

Phase one is a one-on-one duel in a large, open arena. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery, launching projectiles at you. His attacks vary based on your distance. Up close, he hurls four stones, demanding quick evasive maneuvers. From afar, he unleashes eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him. Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage.

While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao employs close-range combos that can be parried, and an area-of-effect (AOE) attack that pushes you back. A white glow signals his AOE attack; retreat to avoid damage. He also uses unblockable attacks (indicated by a red aura), summoning numerous rocks or clones. The best strategy here is to maintain distance until the attack concludes.

A sword is your best weapon choice for this fight, offering superior damage compared to spears or gauntlets. Resource management is crucial. You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are available in jars near the arena entrance; utilize them for healing between attacks.

How to Defeat Zhang Jiao: Phase 2

Once you activate Musou Rage, phase two commences, introducing Yellow Turban reinforcements alongside your own army. This provides an opportunity to heal by retrieving meat buns. Zhang Jiao adds tornados to his arsenal, disrupting your attacks. Clear out his soldiers while remaining aware of these wind-based attacks.

Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, requiring you to defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe. Failure results in a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he unleashes lightning strikes; watch for the closing ring on the ground and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode is highly effective here for quickly eliminating large numbers of soldiers. Prioritize basic Musou over Musou Rage due to the time constraint.

Successfully thwarting Zhang Jiao’s Grand Tactic twice will return him to the battlefield, using the same tactics as phase one. However, with your army's support, defeating him should be significantly easier. This concludes Chapter 1.

Conquer Zhang Jiao and progress in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
