Days Gone PS5 Upgrade Not Eligible for PS Plus Redemptions

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 22,2025

Sony's recent State of Play showcased Days Gone Remastered, but its $10 upgrade policy has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers. The $10 upgrade to the PS5 remaster is only available to those who purchased the PS4 disc or digital version of the game. PS Plus subscribers who redeemed the game through the service (including the now-defunct PS Plus Collection and April 2021's Essential monthly offering) are ineligible for the discounted upgrade and must pay the full $49.99 price.

This decision has led to widespread online complaints from PS Plus users who expressed willingness to pay the $10 upgrade but are now unlikely to purchase the remastered version. Reddit discussions highlight this sentiment, with users suggesting Sony missed out on significant revenue by excluding PS Plus owners from the discounted upgrade. Many believe that even a small percentage of PS Plus subscribers would have opted for the $10 upgrade, generating considerable additional income. Some commenters even pointed out the irony of Sony essentially forfeiting a potential $10 profit per PS Plus user who originally received the game for free.

While some PS Plus subscribers acknowledge Sony's likely financial analysis behind the decision, the company is facing criticism for its perceived stinginess. The situation underscores a growing tension between consumer expectations and publisher pricing strategies, particularly concerning upgrades for games acquired through subscription services.

Despite the controversy, Days Gone Remastered wasn't the only game unveiled at the February 2025 State of Play. For a complete overview of all announcements, refer to IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup.
