For years, fans of the gritty 2007 video game Kane & Lynch, developed by the renowned Hitman studio IO Interactive, have been eagerly awaiting a big-screen adaptation. Over time, the project has seen various Hollywood stars attached, sparking excitement and anticipation. However, despite numerous attempts and different iterations, the film version of Kane & Lynch seems to be stuck in development limbo.

Recently, Timo Tjahjanto, the director behind the upcoming Nobody 2, shared some intriguing insights on social media. He revealed that he had penned a treatment for the Kane & Lynch movie, envisioning David Harbour, famously known for playing Jim Hopper in Stranger Things and Red Guardian in Thunderbolts/New Avengers, in one of the lead roles. "Never seen a script, but a couple of years ago when that property was still kinda hot. I wrote a short treatment with James Badge Dale and David Harbour in mind," Tjahjanto explained. Unfortunately, his vision never progressed beyond the treatment stage.

At one point, Hollywood heavyweights Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were set to star, but both eventually departed as the script underwent numerous rewrites. Later, another iteration of the film was rumored to feature Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel, yet this too failed to materialize.

Following the release of the sequel Kane & Lynch: Dog Days in 2010, which received mixed reviews, IO Interactive shifted their focus entirely to the Hitman series, effectively putting the Kane & Lynch franchise on the back burner. As it stands, the dream of seeing Kane & Lynch on the big screen remains unfulfilled, leaving fans to wonder if it will ever come to fruition.
