Crimson Desert Delayed to 2026 Due to 'Unavoidable' Issues Scheduling Voiceovers, Console Certification, And 'Other Launch Preparations'

The studio behind the highly anticipated open-world action fantasy title Crimson Desert has announced that its single-player adventure has "unavoidably" shifted from a Q4 2025 launch window to early 2026.

During an investor call, Pearl Abyss explained that this delay stems from "extended timelines due to schedule coordination and partnerships with multiple vendors for offline distribution, voice acting, console certification, and other final preparations."

The developer stated that a precise release date will be revealed "at a more suitable moment based on business factors," though it did not clarify what those specific considerations entail.

Fans can still look forward to seeing Crimson Desert showcased at Gamescom, PAX West, and the Tokyo Game Show.

"Crimson Desert is currently undergoing voiceover recording while simultaneously completing tasks like console certification in preparation for launch," Pearl Abyss stated during its Q2 2025 earnings call, as reported by Gematsu. "Regarding marketing, we intend to attend Gamescom and PAX West this August to present our latest open-world build. Additionally, we will participate in the Tokyo Game Show in September to bolster our promotional efforts within the Japanese market."

"The launch of Crimson Desert, our debut large-scale AAA console title, has been unavoidably postponed by one quarter from its initial schedule. This adjustment reflects longer-than-anticipated timelines resulting from coordination and collaboration with various partners for offline distribution, voiceovers, console certification, and other launch preparations. We sincerely apologize for missing the originally promised Q4 release window. Please understand that this is a strategic move designed to ensure success on a significant scale."

"The internal target has been set for Q1 2026," the statement concluded. "However, due to the shift in timing, we will announce the exact date at a more opportune moment based on business needs, rather than doing so at Gamescom next week. We appreciate your ongoing interest and are committed to delivering an even superior experience."

From the creators of Black Desert Online, Crimson Desert unfolds in the fantasy realm of Pywel, where players will uncover wonders and engage in thrilling combat while following "the saga of Kliff, leader of the Greymanes, on his incredible journey." The game is scheduled for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Late last year, Pearl Abyss addressed reports that it declined a PlayStation 5 exclusivity deal from Sony, noting that accepting Sony’s offer—which reportedly included their marketing prowess and unique incentives—would have resulted in a one-year PS5 exclusive run with no Xbox release and Sony retaining PC distribution rights. Ultimately, the studio decided that self-publishing Crimson Desert offered greater potential than sharing revenue with Sony.
