You'll first encounter Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest during Chapter 1's mission questline. After defeating Lala Barina and Congalala, you'll join Olivia and Erik investigating a nearby dam. Aptly nicknamed "A Feast in the Deep," Uth Duna emerges when the Scarlet Forest's waters rise. As the region's apex predator, this battle will be tougher than previous encounters.

Before engaging, equip a thunder-element weapon (if available—Rey Dau in Mission 2-2 is a potential source) and gear/talismans (like Water Charm I) for increased water resistance. A hearty meal boosts health and stamina; pack Nulberries to counter Uth Duna's Waterblight status ailment.

Uth Duna's Attacks and Weaknesses

Uth Duna's iridescent fins act as a defensive "Veil," slowing its movement but boosting its defense. Break this veil to expose its weaknesses:

Belly Slam: A devastating forward slam.
Roar: A brief immobilizing roar.
Body Coil: A spinning tail swipe.
Aerial Twirl: A wide-area leap and slam.
Leg Swipe: A close-range attack.

Its weak points are its Head (breakable), Mouth, Tail (breakable), and Forelegs (both breakable). Consult your Field Guide after your first encounter for a detailed breakdown of weaknesses.

Capture or Kill?

Capture or kill—the choice is yours. Weaken Uth Duna until exhausted, then use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps, followed by Tranq Bombs for a capture. Killing yields different rewards than capturing.
