Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 24,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will shape your experience for the rest of the campaign. Both characters present compelling reasons to suspect them, yet there's a definitive choice that simplifies the quest and leads to a smoother gameplay experience.

Following the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the optimal choice is to confront Wakasa, who is revealed to be the Golden Teppo of the Onryo. By choosing to confront her, you'll swiftly uncover her true identity, making it easier to eliminate her.

When you decide to confront Wakasa, she will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering, you'll notice a telling clue: the kasa (straw hat) she wore during the prologue, confirming your choice. After some dialogue, the scene unfolds, allowing Naoe to end the mission quickly by taking Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Opting to confront Otama after the tea ceremony will still lead you to Wakasa, but the path becomes more complex. By mistakenly targeting Otama, Naoe will chase and kill her, only to discover a letter proving her corruption. However, this delay allows Wakasa to fortify herself in Osaka castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you must travel to Osaka castle and either fight your way through her soldiers or attempt to sneak past them. Even if you've unlocked the Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you'll still encounter enemies. Sneaking up on Wakasa for an assassination won't be enough; you'll face her in a direct confrontation. While the boss fight isn't overly challenging, choosing to confront Wakasa directly from the start avoids this extra hassle and provides a more satisfying cinematic kill, especially given her role in Naoe's father's death.

Understanding the best decision after the Tea Ceremony mission is crucial. To prepare for the game's tougher challenges, learn how to gain XP and level up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, and discover strategies to earn more Knowledge Points, unlocking additional skills for Naoe and Yasuke.
