CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red has confirmed Ciri will be the main protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a character deeply developed in both the books and games, as the natural successor. Her complexity and depth offer exciting creative possibilities for the developers.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, allowing for greater player agency in shaping her character arc—a freedom unavailable with the established Geralt. Discussions about shifting the protagonist began nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir. Kalemba further emphasizes that Ciri's new challenges will forge an equally compelling narrative.

Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt, supports the change, acknowledging Ciri's vast potential as a lead character. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, ensuring a fresh narrative perspective.
