Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

The classic role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to the gaming scene, now available on PC after an impressive 25 years since its initial launch. Originally released on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by Europe in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story follows Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a group of warriors, Ryu embarks on a mission to thwart an emperor's destructive plans and save the world.

As part of GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, Breath of Fire IV has been meticulously updated for today's PC users and is available DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is optimized for modern systems, ensuring compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. Players can enjoy the game in both English and Japanese, thanks to updated localizations. The graphics have been significantly improved with an upgraded DirectX renderer, and new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction enhance the visual experience. Additionally, the audio engine has been overhauled, bringing back missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for a richer auditory experience.
