Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in New Video Celebrating 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has cleverly hidden a tease for Resident Evil 9 in their latest celebratory video. In honor of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a special video on social media on April 25. The clip features Ada Wong whispering to a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon faces a horde of infected, amusingly adorned with party hats, as they approach a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador humorously playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera pans to a fist-pumping Leon, and behind him, a rustic sign reads "Thank you for playing." However, if you turn the sign on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which translates to the number 9.

While some might argue this could be a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that a lower plank, which completes the numeral, is absent in earlier scenes, suggesting its inclusion was deliberate. "I know what you did here," said one surprised viewer, followed by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not officially confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
