Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead. Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role. While the series will focus on a new Slayer, Gellar's involvement is rumored to be a recurring one.

Adding to the excitement, Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is reportedly in negotiations to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not participating in this reboot.

PlayThis reboot comes after allegations of a toxic work environment on the original Buffy and its spin-off, Angel, surfaced against Whedon.

Plot details remain scarce, but the focus on a new Slayer and Gellar's possible return are confirmed.

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ran for seven seasons (1997-2003), followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight supernatural forces. Her allies included Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles. The series' legacy continued through a spin-off, Angel, and subsequent comic books.
